The Farm Show – Sponsored by glanbiaconnect.com – 7/2/2019

First tonight, Matt spoke with Oonagh O’Mahony, editor of Irish Food magazine who gave her thoughts on the state of food production in the country in 2018 and in the coming year. Overall her comments were positive but there’s need for care in the market, especially in meat production. One noticeably improved market is in the area of whiskey and gin production with a growing number of distilleries opening in Ireland in 2018.
Matt took a trip to the Farm Tractors and Machinery Trade Association Farm Machinery show and spoke with Gary Ryan, CEO of the FTMTA. He described how the show has developed over the last 30 years. Matt also spoke with Noel Dunne, machinery correspondent of the Irish Farmers Monthly who spoke about some of the highlights of the year’s show.
Terry Carroll, Livestock Adviser with Teagasc, joined us to talk about topical issues in sheep and with the annual warning about control of dogs at this critical time for sheep farmers.
We had the weekly Farm Diary sponsored by Tullow Mart and George Candler joined us from Kilkenny Mart to give the Kilkenny Mart Report.
