The return of mining to Galmoy will bring 50 new jobs to North Kilkenny
Plans are in place to re-open the lead and zinc mine

50 new jobs are to be created with the re-opening of Galmoy mines in North kilkenny
Shanoon resources Limited are behind plans to revive the lead and zinc mine there, and it is expected to be back up and running in mid 2019.
Local Councillor Mary Hilda Cavanagh says it was a big loss to the area when it closed, and she hopes this will give many people who lost their jobs there the opportunity to return.
The site had been purchased by AQS – a waste management company in recent years but their plans for it changed when zinc prices took an upward turn again.
