“Disgraceful and unacceptable” – that’s what Senator Jennifer Murnane O Connor thinks about waiting lists for patients at St Luke’s hospital.

Latest figures show 717 people are waiting for inpatient and day case procedures locally with 95 of them waiting more than a year.

Senator Murnane O Connor says it’s time the Minister intervened.

Meanwhile, St Luke’s Hospital has fallen to fourth place in the country’s list of those waiting on beds today.

Figures from the Irish Nurses & Midwives Organisation show that 38 patients are in that position at the Carlow & Kilkenny facility -overall 591 people across the country are waiting in emergency departments and overflow areas of wards.

Tops today is Cork University Hospital with 51, followed by University College Hospital Galway with 42 & 39 at South Tipperary General Hospital.
