More and more dual-income families are seeking support from food banks across the country.
That’s according to Waterford Food Bank, which distributes over 200 food parcels every week to individuals and families living in food poverty – this week they’ll drop off to about 1,000 in the city.
Coordinator Karen Glancy says the number of people seeking support has increased substantially; “The cost-of-living crisis is hitting so, so many people and it actually beginning to affect people that before would never have been affected, we’ve found our number steadily increasing sadly over the years but in recent months we’ve found a substantial rise in our dual income families seeking support because of the rise in mortgage rates, utility bills, car insurance, families who are outside that threshold of help”.
Meanwhile, you can still donate to St Clare’s Hospitality Kitchen in Graiguecullen as part of the KCLR Spirit of Christmas – you’ll find the link to do that here.
