Waterways Ireland says they’re aware of all the opposition to constructing a towpath along the Barrow Way but they’re going ahead with a planning submission anyway.
They’re looking to build a cycle path through Rathangan, Athy, Leighlinbridge, Bagenalstown, Goresbridge, Graiguenamanagh and St Mullins.
Many locals have opposed this development since it was announced a number of years ago, saying the natural grass path that’s there shouldn’t be tampered with.
Speaking to KCLR Live today, John Boyle from Waterways Ireland says the Barrow way is an asset that needs to be developed and promoted.
