It was a frustrating afternoon for the Carlow hurlers yesterday as they suffered a heavy defeat away to Antrim in Belfast.
Carlow were well beaten on the scoreboard, with the game finishing 25 points to 12, a result that leaves them firmly involved in the battle to retain their Division 1B status.
Speaking after the game, Carlow player Fiachra Fitzpatrick admitted the performance was a puzzling one, particularly given the level of preparation going into the contest.
“We felt flat on the field, we felt quiet — just flat, I don’t know why.
We came a long way and we knew that. The county board put points up last night, there’s no excuses that way — we were well looked after, well prepared — but just flat on the day, which is something we’re going to have to figure out.”
The defeat means Carlow now face a challenging run-in, with crucial fixtures still to come against Clare and Kildare as they look to secure their place in Division 1B.
