The Leinster hurling championship took another dramatic twist yesterday as Kilkenny were denied at the death by Offaly in Tullamore.
A controversial late 65 from Eoghan Cahill rescued a draw for the hosts in injury time after the effort had initially been signalled wide.
The result leaves the Leinster Senior Hurling Championship table finely balanced, with Galway and Dublin currently in the strongest positions, while the race for the remaining knockout spot remains wide open.
Speaking afterwards, Kilkenny manager Derek Lyng admitted his side were frustrated with both the late decision and their own shooting throughout the game.
“Look, the decision was made. It was a wide ball, next thing it was a 65 — it is what it is. There’s nothing we can do about it now.
“Lots of shots, our execution wasn’t good and we need to be taking those shots. When you don’t get some of those scores it does have an impact.
“We weren’t doing things with conviction, we were not shooting with conviction and there was a little bit of nervousness in our play, which we’ve seen sometimes this year as well.
“So look, we have to take the point from it and that’s it — get ready for next weekend.”
Kilkenny now turn their attention to another crucial championship clash next weekend against Kildare as the battle for qualification continues.
