We’ll find out later today if Carlow or Kilkenny will once again be represented at the Academy Awards.
A number of months ago Kilkenny’s Cartoon Saloon was long-listed in the Best Animated Award category for a short film.
‘Late Afternoon’ is the name of the name of the local animation studio’s latest critically acclaimed production.
It’s directed by Louise Bagnall and stars Fionnuala Flanagan who’s the voice of an elderly woman, drifting back through her memories.
The film was one of the 11 longlisted in December.
Meanwhile, Carlow actress, Saoirse Ronan has been creating a bit of Oscar buzz with her starring role in the newly released Mary Queen of Scotts.
If it comes to pass today, it will be her fourth nomination at just 24 years of age.
However, last week she told ITV’s ‘This Morning’ that she won’t be too bothered if she isn’t nominated.
So for now it’s fingers crossed for both Saoirse and the Cartoon Saloon team with the nominations to be announced from 1.20.
