Woman killed in overnight crash just over Carlow border, in Laois
A 48-year-old woman has been killed in a crash just over the Carlow border in County Laois.
The driver of the second car, a man, was seriously injured in the crash that happened on the N80 at about 10 o’clock last night.
The stretch of road between Ballickmoyler and the townland of Coolhenry was closed for a technical examination, reopening late Saturday afternoon.
Speaking to KCLR News this morning, Traffic Inspector for Carlow/Kilkenny, Anthony Farrell says GardaĆ are appealing for witnesses:
“Both cars were travelling in opposite directions. For those familiar with the area, the collision occured in the area between Carlow Town and Ballickmoyler village.
“Our colleagues in Portlaoise are seeking help from anyone who might have been on the road at about 10pm last night.
“It’s particularly tragic for all involved, and indeed the local community. If you can help in any way, I’d ask you to contact Portlaoise Garda Station on 057 867411.”
