Kilkenny’s Town Hall is undergoing its long-mooted refurbishment.
The Tholsel on the city’s High Street is largely closed off to the public as works get underway – they’re expected to last for at least 18 months.
Mayor Andrew McGuinness told KCLR News; “We had to make the upstairs accessible to people in wheelchairs and people with mobility challenges so an elevator has to go in to bring the building up to modern standards and we’re refurbishing the dungeon which has never been open to the public and that’s going to be open to the public once that’s complete and again the clock tower which isn’t really open to the public either that’s going to be refurbished and open to the public”.
He adds; “And all of the rooms inside are going to be brought back to the same way they were before the fire of 1985 so it’ll be brought back to it’s original glory”.
