Many homes and businesses in Johnstown, Urlingford and surrounding areas of north west Kilkenny have been impacted by a water outage.

Uisce Éireann has confirmed to KCLR News it’s working to restore water supply to customers there following an interruption at the local water treatment plant which was caused by a third-party strike on the network resulting in a temporary shutdown of the plant and reduced levels in the treated water reservoir.

Water treatment operations have now resumed but the utility says it will take time for the treated water reservoir and network to recover, and customers may continue to experience low pressure, intermittent supply, or loss of supply while the system recharges.

Shane Aylward, Water Operations Manager with Uisce Éireann, said: “Water treatment operations have resumed, and our teams are on site monitoring the network as supply is restored to customers. We understand the inconvenience that disruptions to water supply can cause and thank customers for their patience. As the network continues to recover, we are asking customers to be mindful of their water use where possible to help reservoir levels recover and support the restoration of normal supply across the area.”

Those in the area are encouraged to be mindful of their water use while the network recharges and reservoir levels recover. Simple water conservation measures can help support the restoration of normal supply across the area. Further information and water-saving tips are available on the Uisce Éireann website at Water Conservation.

It typically takes a number of hours for normal water supply to return to all customers once water treatment operations have resumed and reservoir levels begin to recover. Restoration can take longer for customers at the end of the network or on higher ground.
