40 patients are waiting on a bed at St Lukes hospital today.
The INMO reports the local hospital has the highest number on trolleys in the country.
In a statement to KCLR news management says the hospital is very busy following a high attendance rate in the Emergency Department yesterday with an increased number of admissions overnight.
It says St Lukes apologises to anyone waiting on a bed and hospital staff and management are working towards accommodating all patients appropriately.
In the meantime they’re asking people to attend GP’s or Caredoc before presenting to the Emergency Department there.
