An anti-pylon group is welcoming a review of the Eirgrid project – gridlink
The company had proposed a network of pylons be through Carlow, Kilkenny and neighbouring counties to generate electricity to deal with future demands.
However, the ESB has made a submission saying the projected need is just 5 percent, 40 percent lower than originally forecast to deal with the time frame 2008-2024.
The communications minister has confirmed an outcome of the evaluation is due early next year.
Helen Fitzgerald from the save our heartland project in Carlow says the group is relieved that their concerns are finally being listened to.
