The average age of people in Carlow and Kilkenny has increased according to the latest census figures.
However, Carlow’s population is still younger than the national average, at 36.9 years-old compared to 37.4.
In Kilkenny, the average age is just under 38.
Both counties also saw a drop in the number of zero to four year olds, and young adults.
The figures released today by the CSO, also show 57% of the population in Kilkenny and 54% in Carlow are dependents – either elderly or children.
