Lifebuoys missing from Carlow Town park could have cost a man his life.
Local man Joseph Middleton has been hailed a hero after helping another young man to rescue someone from the River Barrow last week but says there was none of the life-saving devices to be seen in the area.
They used a dinghy to get to the man who was struggling in the water but Joseph, who cant swim, says if that wasn’t there he doesn’t know what they would have done:
“If that had been farther up where there were no boats, I suppose at the spur of the moment you wouldn’t be thinking and might have tried to jump in to try and save him.
“There was nothing else there. Only for the boat, that man wouldn’t be here today.”
