The community in Inistioge won’t be letting their post office go without a fight.
That’s the message that was put forward at a public meeting on Thursday night, which was called after it emerged the service would be lost if money to save it couldn’t be found.
The Post Office is to be moved from its current building into a section of the local shop.
However, it’s going to cost them about €15,000 to build the necessary protective area in the shop – half of which has to be fundraised for.
Speaking to KCLR News, Inistioge Councillor Michael Doyle says losing a post office has a knock-on effect for a rural area like theirs.
