125 cattle have been seized from a farm in Kilkenny today on behalf of the Criminal Assets Bureau.
It follows a High Court judgement obtained by the bureau against a Thomas McDonnell with an address at Pollough, Skeoughvosteen for unpaid taxes.
The investigation relating to Mr McDonnell started in 2006 and the tax liability covers a total of 16 tax years based on assessments made in 2008 giving rise to a tax liability of €1.2 million (tax only)
High Court Revenue proceedings for the collection of the unpaid taxes started in November 2009. – Mr McDonnell defended these proceedings and ultimately, the Bureau obtained judgment in May 2013
It has since been seeking to collect the sums outstanding which with accrued interest,is now in excess of €4 million.
Today’s action, which has been one of a number of actions by the Bureau since obtaining judgment in the High Court, has resulted in approximately 125 cattle being seized by the Sheriff with the assistance of local Gardaí.
