Out of the 300 motorists caught with mobile phones in their hands while driving yesterday 75 were in the South east region.
Gardai are continuing their clampdown on the offence today as they aim to educate local drivers about the risks of using their phones while behind the wheel.
New laws will come into place next month which will make it an offence to send or read a text message – or to even hold or touch a mobile phone while driving.
