A cold snap is on the way, with temperatures set to drop in Carlow and Kilkenny overnight

Met Éireann is forecasting a nationwide yellow alert for low temperatures and ice which will begin at 8pm today.

Snow warnings are likely to be issued, as temperatures continue to plummet.

But Met Éireann says some areas – particularly in the south – can expect up to 5 centimetres of snow tomorrow night.
