It’s set to be a busy weekend for Carlow and Kilkenny athletes with several local competitors involved at today’s National Indoor Combined Events in Athlone Institute of Technology Arena
KCH athlete Michael Bowler is the reigning Senior Champion and recent Leinster “Star Awards” winners Jack Manning and Shannen Dawkins were also medal winners in their respective juvenile categories last year.
Catriona Toomey, KCH and Verena Fenlon St Josephs should also be in the frame for medals.
On Sunday in Kilkenny the County Cross Country Championships take place
The Masters Men Over 35 and Women’s Over 30 Championship taking place.
The Junior Men and Women’s Championships will also be held and there will be open races for Juvenile athletes in the even age groups.
The Men’s race looks wide open but the clear favourite in the women’s race is the title holder and current Senior Champion Maria Griffin of St Josephs.
The event is being hosted by Gowran AC and will take place in Bramblestown with signposts from the main Gowran Dungarvan road.
The first race is off at 11.00am
