Callan boxer Claire Grace out of world championships through injury

Kilkenny boxer Claire Grace has been withdrawn from the A-I-B-A Women’s World Championships in South Korea.

She was due to face Turkey’s Guluzar Kara in their last 16 welterweight bout today but the Callan woman didn’t weigh in this morning

Claire, who is ranked No. 10 in the world by AIBA, sustained a nasty cut over her left eye in her win over Romania’s Cristina Stanca on Monday.

Anna Moore said that the Irish coaching staff decided to withdraw the Irish Elite champion from the tournament for welfare and safety reasons.

Michaela Walsh and Katie Taylor will be in action on Thursday in Jeju.
