Carlow is among one of the least favourite counties for long holidays among domestic travellers.
The Central Statistics Office household travel survey figures reveal that Louth and Monaghan are the least popular destinations for domestic travel with visitors spending an average of 2.1 nights in the border regions.
However despite higher visitor numbers, visitors stayed an average of just 1.8 nights in Carlow.
Counties Laois and Offaly were the second least favourite with an average stage of two nights.
Kerry and Clare were among the most popular long trips with Dublin being a short stay favourite.
Eileen O’Rourke of Carlow Tourism says Carlow is a favourite among Dublin holiday makers and the close proximity to Dublin may explain short stays.
