Voting closes and counting gets underway in part of the Seanad elections today.
Postal voting for the NUI and Trinity College panels will close at 11am.
Graduates of those institutions have been voting to elect six Senators.
Among those in contention are former Minister Katherine Zappone, outgoing Green Party Minister Ossian Smyth, Lynn Ruane and former lord mayor of Dublin Hazel Chu.
While local names bidding for a place in the Upper House of the Oireachtas include former Minister of State and local Green Party TD Malcolm Noonan, Kilkenny Councillors David Fitzgerald (Fine Gael) and Pat Fitzpatrick (Fianna Fáil) as well as former Environment Awareness Officer with Kilkenny County Council Sadhbh O’Neill and former local council candidate Patricia Stephenson (Social Democrats) and Carlow native Laoise de Brún.
