The Sinn Féin TD for Carlow Kilkenny has been appointed as the party’s spokesperson for carers and older people.
While she expressed surprise at receiving the role, Natasha Newsome Drennan said she was “delighted” and emphasised her personal experience as a carer and her passion for advocating on behalf of others in that role as well as older people.
Speaking to KCLR, Deputy Newsome Drennan outlined what the position involves, noting’ “Being a voice anyway for people, older people and carers, plenty of work to be done on it, it’s really it’s just being their voice, standing up for their rights and there will be, you know, policy that will need to be looked at, stuff will have to be updated and look I’m hoping that with my background being that carer that I can bring a new vision, a new eye to it”.
