The Carlow Mayor’s Awards are on tonight.
The awards will be given out to local people and groups that enrich the town and its community.
This year’s ceremony is virtual at 7 o’clock this evening but Mayor Fergal Browne says that means an even bigger crowd than normal, telling KCLR News “This evening the annual Mayor awards will take place, albeit virtually, but that also presents an opportunity for maybe more people to join in than normal and we’ve also invited our sister associations we’ll say abroad from Tempe Arizona to the London Association and the New York Association, so they’ll also be joining in online which is a new feature for the Mayor’s awards”.
He adds “It’s great to open up the awards to the wider Carlow community and those Carlovians who are living abroad and who have been a great support to Carlow over the years, but have an input int the awards and be able to join in, we’re also using the opportunity to say thanks to people, both on an individual basis and as a group, for the works they’ve done over the years and we’re marking a few significant anniversaries as well”.
And Mayor Browne also says “I’ll be presenting the awards to the different recipients and explaining why they’re getting the awards and the recipients will then have an opportunity to speak about themselves or their organisations which is a good opportunity to explain what their groups are doing on the ground then they’ll be getting their certificate in the post the following day”.
