Carlow Senator Jennifer Murnane O’Connor is calling for a compromise on the pay-by-weight bin charges controversy.
The Fianna Fáil woman is quoted in today’s Irish Independent saying that should the charges be introduced, a waiver scheme for lower-income households should be brought in.
She says that families with people with special needs who can’t afford to pay, as well as larger households with young children and babies should be given special consideration under the scheme.
The pay-by-weight charges were to be introduced from the 1st of July but a 12-month freeze has now been put on them.
