Celebrations continue locally after wins at the Pride of Place awards.
The Elderflower Garden in Carlow received a special prize for its innovative use of space which captivated the judges.
Mayor of Carlow Fintan Phelan has told KCLR News; “Absolutely, it was fantastic news for Carlow over the weekend The Elderflower Garden Club on Barrack Street in Carlow won a special award for age friendly communities, anyone that’s familiar with the garden knows the work that goes in by the dedicated group of volunteers that are there in the Elderflower Club”.
Inistioge was a runner-up in areas with a population of below 300.
While Ferrybank was runner-up in the Community Wellbeing Initiative category.
Community Development Chairman there John Hayes believes it brought those of the area closer together, noting; “A lot of people because we put a great bit I suppose of organisation, everybody working together, all of the different community groups helping, it really has kind-of kick-started a renewed interest in getting the Tidy Towns right, all of the different things going and we have some really positive things happening as a result”.
