Concerns have been raised about the condition of the River Barrow, with calls for action to address significant silting along the waterway.
Councillor Willie Quinn says parts of the river have become so silted up that boat traffic can no longer pass through areas including Clashganny.
He says the issue cannot be addressed until a proposal from Waterways Ireland receives approval from An Bord Pleanála, where it has been awaiting a decision for more than a year.
Cllr Quinn described the Barrow as one of the county’s most important natural assets which is vital for tourism.
He recently also highlighted issues of ongoing littering at the popular bathing spot.
