Carlow County Council needs to hire 70 new staff but doesn’t have the funds to do it
Carlow-Kilkenny TD John McGuinness is highlighting the 'critical' condition of the local authority after a meeting with the executive

Carlow County Council are critically short of funding and staff and it’s affecting services.
Local TDs were informed of the dire situation at a recent meeting with local authority management.
Fianna Fail’s John McGuinness says 70 extra staff would be needed to deliver all the services needed in the county.
Deputy McGuinness says Carlow has a chronic shortfall that needs to be addressed.
He says the County Council is caught in a ‘Catch 22’ where it doesn’t have the funding to hire more staff and doesn’t have enough staff to apply for all the funding they need.
Newly elected Cathaoirleach of Carlow County Council Fintan Phelan says pressure has to be kept on the government if more funding is to be secured.
