Kilkenny Dog Track is to benefit from investment to the tune of one million euro.
Fianna Fáil TD and Chairperson of the Oireachtas Agriculture Committee, Jackie Cahill has confirmed the spend from the Department of Agriculture.
He says; “I am delighted to announce that Minister Charlie McConalogue has confirmed funding of €1 Million for Kilkenny Dog Track to upgrade facilities. I have been working closely with local Deputy John McGuinness and Minister McConalogue on this issue for a long time now.
“Last March, I announced that officials within the Department of Agriculture had commenced engagements with the Board of Kilkenny Dog Track to secure this investment, and after a lot of hard work we are finally seeing delivery for the area today.
“The Dog Track in Kilkenny has a great tradition and patronage. It plays an essential role in community involvement.
“The facilities for patrons are desperately in need of upgrade and have not been refurbished in a long time. This €1 Million investment by Government today will equip the stadium with modern facilities. The track itself is renowned for its racing surface, but the facilities for the large numbers attending races there are in need of a major upgrade.
“This funding will ensure the future of the dog track for many, many years to come and guarantee that the top class racing in Kilkenny will continue to be viewed and enjoyed by even greater numbers in comfortable, top-class surroundings.
“I would to sincerely thank the Board of Kilkenny Dog Track, Deputy John McGuinness, and Minister Charlie McConalogue for working with me so closely as Chair of the Oireachtas Agriculture Committee to secure this investment today.”
