Four local groups are among 163 nationally to benefit under the Community Recognition Fund.
They’ll take a share of €800,000 as part of a €14million spend nationwide as announced this morning by Minister Dara Calleary.
Local breakdown
Minister of State Jennifer Murnane O’Connor has told KCLR News; “It’s good that there is recognition there for our communities and I think that these are important projects”.
She adds that each does, or will, provide opportunities for many locally with one basic, everyday activity enabled, noting; “Talking, whether you have an issue or if you want to go in somewhere for a cup of tea or just knowing you can go somewhere and sit down and talk to someone, people are so good, but these centres are excellent, these are all services and these are all part of our community, it’s a service there, people are volunteering, people are so good and there is a lot of goodness out there but we need to make sure that we fund it and that this type of funding is always onstream”.
