Employment levels for people with disabilities higher in Carlow and Kilkenny than other areas

Kilkenny and Carlow are both bucking the trend when it comes to employment for disabled people.

That’s according to the Disability Federation of Ireland as figures have revealed that nationally, 80% of people in Ireland with a disability don’t have a job.

A new campaign called ‘Valuable’ has been set up to try and get business leaders to tackle inequality and exclusion.

PJ Cleere says while Kilkenny and Carlow people are doing better than in many other areas, there’s a lot more to be done.

27% of people with disabilities in Carlow are in employment and 33% in Kilkenny according to 2011 figures.
