Expectant fathers across Carlow and Kilkenny can soon avail of paid paternity leave

The new paternity scheme which comes into force next month will cost the state 20 million euro each year.
Local expectant dads are being reminded to get organised and apply for the benefit before their new child arrives.
They must give their employers at least a month’s notice if they want to avail of the paternity scheme.
It applies to employees and the self employed – and also to dads who’ve adopted a child.
Doctor John Lowe says you have to have your public service card organised first.
