The Kilkenny Arts Festival gets underway today, marking the start of ten days of music, theatre, visual arts and performance.
The opening night features the world premiere of The Curing Line, a new opera by Michael Gallen, blending traditional, rock and electronic music in a powerful family drama.

Festival Director Ola Barry told KCLR News “Every year I say ‘how did that happen?’ blink and it’s another year gone, it’s incredible and of course it’s been such a beautiful summer it kinda feels like we’ve been in summer times for like we’re barely getting into our stride with the summer and we’re coming into August but it’s great, it’s always a great buzz on the first day of the festival so delighted”.
