A County Wexford Fianna Fáil Councillor is to run as an Independent candidate in the General Election.
New Ross based Michael Sheehan confirmed via an online posting last night;
Now’s the time for an Experienced Voice & a New Independent Choice for the people of #NewRoss town & district. Thank you to everyone for your supportive messages today. #GE2024 #GeneralElection2024 pic.twitter.com/i2rvySosfu

Meanwhile, Sinn Féin has selected its general election candidate in Laois, following the departure of Brian Stanley.
Maria McCormack was selected by the party last night.
She failed to secure a seat in the Portlaoise area in June’s local elections.
Deputy Stanley last week confirmed he will contest the general election as an Independent.
He resigned as a member of Sinn Féin last month, saying he was subject to a flawed internal complaints procedure.
