You may spot a film crew in Kilkenny City today.
Tourism Ireland‘s shooting a campaign locally.
Their team began in the Rose Garden at Kilkenny Castle early this morning and are set to visit a number of sites today.
It’s understood the result will be screened across the globe, in multiple languages.
Tourism Officer with Kilkenny Tourism Martina Comerford has told KCLR News “They are putting together content for their international programme so Kilkenny is being showcased as one of the destinations to visit for international visitors when it is safe to do so again, so we were very excited we let the businesses know that the film crew would be out and around and we made sure we had the bins emptied and the streets looking as good as possible for Kilkenny to be shown on the international scene”.
“So the Rose Garden would be I suppose the main clip that would probably feature on the ad but they were also down around The Butterslip as well seeing the Medieval City that we are you know, with the laneways they were interested in, and up around Kieran Street, so again we’d let the businesses know there were due to film there this morning so there should be a couple of nice scenes there”.
Hopes are high that this campaign for international visitors will add to the domestic ones for which Kilkenny Tourism recently announced Five Ambassadors (more on that here) and Fáilte Ireland launching its latest campaign today too (details of that here).
Martina says “We have our own More to Explore campaign that Kilkenny Tourism has launched so that will be working to get our staycationers to Kilkenny and in the meantime then obviously Tourism Ireland are planning that international campaign as well so we would be ready and willing to bring back our international visitors as well, hopefully maybe in quarter four of this year but certainly for next year we’ll be good to go”.
