Carter Sampson has a quiet power about her performance and her songs. They don’t ‘command’ attention in any bombastic way but rather through the power of lyric and melody combining to enter the heart and soul. I caught her second (sold out) show at Ryan’s on the Sunday of Roots 2017 and following a nicely paced set with really witty banter, she and her accompanist (the incomparable BJ Bartmans) she stepped away from the mics and played their last song to the room, the people and the moment.
It was pretty special.
I asked her to drop in and she came up to Studio 2 on her way to the UK leg of her tour. Two songs and a lovely insight to her music and then she and BJ slipped away to Belfast.
She’s welcome back any time!
