The Public Accounts Committee is meeting for the first time this morning following the resignation of Brian Stanley from Sinn Fein.
The Laois/Offaly Deputy was the chair of the PAC and the party has nominated Mairead Farrell to replace him, but this is expected to be met with opposition.
It’s unclear if Brian Stanley will appear at the Committee this morning.
Former Chair of the PAC, Carlow Kilkenny TD, John McGuinness says members of the Committee shouldn’t get involved with the political controversy noting; “If they have issues in questioning Sinn Féin well then they need to do that in the Dáil chamber, the Public Accounts Committee needs to be allowed to continue its work which is a very valuable piece of work without being involved”.
