As the days get colder and you order in heating supplies, Gardaí are warning of oil tank thefts.
Both counties have been hit by such incidents recently.
Garda Lisa Mullins has told KCLR News; “A number of incidents are after occurring across Carlow Kilkenny in the last couple of weeks in relation to oil tanks being interfered with and oil taken from them so we’re just appealing to people to be a bit more proactive in how they keep an eye and protect their oil”.
She says; “We’re advising people to fit the tank with a padlock or lockable filler cap, secure maybe with a cage, make it harder for people to get in around it, ensure you’ve lockable gates on your premises “.
And Garda Mullins notes that she and her team are “Also advising people to fit sensor lights near their oil tanks and if possible have a CCTV camera or a doorbell camera that it could capture anyone interfering with it and there are various locks you can get now online where you can put on your oil tank connect it up to your phone on an app and it’ll notify you if there’s anything suspicious with your oil tank so we’re just appealing to people to be extra vigilant with oil tanks at this time of year”.
