Work on removing lead pipes in Tullow to start next week

Work to remove up to 100 lead pipes used to carry drinking water in Tullow is set to begin next week.

Irish Water say all the pipes will be replaced with high density plastic pipes at areas including Abbey Street, Bishop Street, the Bunclody Road and the Dublin Road.

Mark O’Duffy from Irish Water told KCLR News the works will be continuing into the new year but they will try to make sure there’s as little impact as possible on local businesses.

He says Tullow is one of the first towns in the country where the replacement of lead pipes is to happen.
