Irish Water says the major works on the Thomastown/Inistioge water supply should begin in September.
The contract for the €10 million works, which would see the supply in Thomastown connected to Inistioge, was signed last week.
The supply in Inistioge has been repeatedly on the EPA’s remedial action list because of the presence of Trihalomethanes.
But speaking to KCLR News, Diane Carroll, Programme Manager with Irish Water says these works will eliminate this.
Almost 18 kilometres of new mains will be put down over the next year and a half, with about 14 kilometres of this going through roads.
