Katie Power captained Kilkenny to a 2-16 to 0-14 victory over Dublin in the final round of the Division 1A Very Camogie League at O’Toole Park on Saturday.

The Kilkenny captain has spent most of the league on the bench to recover from injury and to recharge after she led Piltown to a historic first county senior championship win last year.

Speaking to KCLR after the match, she expressed her excitement about returning to county action and her pride in leading the team.

“It was great to be back, absolutely delighted. I was buzzing all week because it’s a great honor to be leading out the team and the girls have put in a lot of hard work over the last couple of months, I just try to slot in as seamlessly as I could”.

Power revealed her surprise upon learning she would be playing wing-back, however, with the management needing to try something different to secure the win, she was more than willing to adapt.

“I was a bit shellshocked last week when the lads had said what their plans were. We didn’t concede a goal for the first time all league and that just bred the confidence up through the team. If I can help in any way, whether that’s in the backs or the forwards I’m happy to do whichever, I don’t mind”.

Looking ahead to the Championship, the Kilkenny captain acknowledged that Dublin would come back fighting even harder in their first-round clash after today’s defeat.

“The next thing that’s coming up now is Leinster Championship and we want to win that, there’s no point saying otherwise. We’re under no illusions coming back up here in five weeks is going to be a different tussle. Today’s game and today’s performance won’t be good enough for that”.

Kilkenny will take on Dublin in the opening round of the Leinster Championship on May 3rd.
