John McGuinness says he would have no problem whatsoever with Bertie Ahern rejoining Fianna Fail.
His local branch – in Dublin Central – passed a unanimous motion last night calling for a letter to be written to the former Taoiseach inviting him back into the fold.
They say it will help them win a Dáil seat in the constituency.
The move has been criticised after the Mahon Tribunal rejected Mr Ahern’s explanation of how over €200,000 traveled through his bank accounts.
A spokesperson for the party says if and when Mr Ahern makes an application to rejoin, the request will be put through the same process as any other citizen.
But Local party TD, John McGuinness told KCLR Live this morning that he’d welcome Bertie back with open arms.
Meanwhile Carlow Fianna Fáil Councillor, Arthur McDonald also says he’d be delighted to see Bertie back.
Councillor McDonald says he’s never lost faith with his former leader.
