John Paul Phelan says any change to boundary would end his political career

John Paul Phelan says he wouldn’t just leave Fine Gael, but he would end his political career altogether if there were to be any change to the Kilkenny/Waterford boundary.
The local TD says that rumours abound in the Dáil that 20,000 acres and about 7,500 people in the south of the county could be about to become part of the Déise.
That’s despite around 18,000 submissions being made to the commission investigating the possibility of changing the boundary a number of months ago, calling for the plans to be dropped.
However, speaking to KCLR News this morning, Deputy Phelan says the people of South Kilkenny could be in for a shock as there appears to be an “issue” with the border question there.
It’s understood the results of a report into the viability of a change will be known early next year.
