A local TD is criticising the government for its inaction about the UK’s plans to scrap the European Human Rights Act.

Kathleen Funchion says the European Convention on Human Rights and subsequent acts provide essential safeguards and is a central element of the Good Friday Agreement.

The Sinn Fein TD, who is the chairperson of the Good Friday Agreement Committee, say she’s surprised about the government’s inaction on this.

And she says she wants the Taoiseach to defend the rights of those in Northern Ireland.
