A local councillor’s hit out at comments made by Minister of State Malcolm Noonan with regards to the lack of progress on the Kilkenny Ring Road extension.
On KCLR last week, the Carlow Kilkenny Green TD expressed disappointment at what he said was the failure of Kilkenny County Council to progress the route from the Castlecomer Roundabout.
Cllr David Fitzgerald told KCLR News; “I think the Minister’s statement is very disingenuous, it’s well known that the Green Party in Government have cancelled and postponed roads and bridge projects all over the countryside so for the Minister to lay the blame for the failure to progress the Ring Road bridge and northern extension on Kilkenny County Council is simply untrue”.
He adds “When I became Mayor in 2022 I set it out as a priority and the officials have been engaging with the Minister and his Department for some time to try and secure funding to progress the project, I myself wrote to Minister Ryan at the time and clearly asked for his support and instead of offering any support he simply referred me onto Kilkenny County Council and Transport Infrastructure Ireland so this is in my view is political gamesmanship by the Minister and I don’t think the public are buying into it”.
Cllr Fitzgerald joined our Brian Redmond on The KCLR Daily to further discuss this – hear that conversation in full here;
