The Junior and Leaving Certificate Exams are well underway, with over 147,000 candidates sitting the papers throughout the State.
Today, Junior Cert students negotiated their Irish and Geography exams while the Leaving Cert Class of 2026 sat their Engineering and English Paper 2 exams.
To the relief of many, the hoped-for appearance of poet Elizabeth Bishop on Paper 2 came good, while WB Yeats, Paula Meehan, John Donne and Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin also featured.
Initial feedback on the Engineering exam suggests that nothing unfair was posed to students this morning, although a part of question six which related to welding hadn’t been anticipated.
Abbey Community College in Ferrybank draws in students from across South Kilkenny (Ferrybank, Mooncoin, Kilmacow, Glenmore, Mullinavat) and Waterford City and has 350 students sitting the exams in over 40 centres between now and June 23rd.
KCLR News spoke to students following the completion of English Paper 1 yesterday and also asked Abbey Community College English teacher Mark Power for his thoughts as the exam season got underway.
