Man in his 70s dies in South Kilkenny crash

A man has died after a crash on the N24 near Piltown yesterday evening.

It happened at half past 7 in the southbound lane between Carrick on Suir and Mooncoin and that stretch of road remains closed.

A technical examination of the scene of a fatal crash near the Piltown exit of the N24 is getting underway around now.

The driver and the sole occupant of the car, a man in his 70s was pronounced dead at the scene after his vehicle and a lorry collided.

His body was taken to the mortuary at University Hospital Waterford.

The second driver, a man in his 30s, received minor injuries and was also alone in his vehicle.

The scene is preserved and Garda Forensic Investigators are expected to be there until early afternoon.

Local diversions are in place through Piltown.
