The world premiere of a film that was shot locally is taking place today.
The Secret Scripture, directed by Jim Sheridan, is being shown at the
Toronto Film Festival in the US.
A number of scenes for the film were shot in Inistioge back in February of
last year, when the Kilkenny village was transported back to the 1950s.
It’s based on a novel by Sebastian Barry surrounding the life of mental
asylum patient, Roseanne McNulty.
Many locals were used as extras in the filming – including the three
children of John Gilsenan who says everyone’s hopeful it will be shown in
Europe.
