The need for social housing locally is to be assessed by the Government’s Housing Agency.
They’re to start buying private homes to use for social housing.
Around 1,000 private properties will be assessed for suitability over the next two years.
The properties of most counties are to be evaluated in groups, with Kilkenny and Waterford put together and Carlow and Wexford as a separate group.
Conor Skehan from the Housing Agency says they want to work quickly.
